Dodge is working on releasing the beginning of the end, or in their own words, the "first of the brand's last call lineup of seven special editions 2023 models." The series-leading 2023 Dodge Challenger Shakedown will begin Dodge festivities in the spring of 2023. Some may be sad to see the legendary Challenger on its way out the door, but at least Dodge is doing it justice.

With Dodge first debuting the Challenger in 1969, fans of the car are fifty years in the making. And while they will be sad to see it go, fans will be able to enjoy one last grand show. Set to hit the spotlight sometime this fall, the Dodge Challenger Shakedown will be the beginning of the end for the iconic Challenger nameplate. Here are ten things you should know about the special edition Shakedown.

10/10 The Original Shakedown Was Created in 2016

This year's Shakedown won't exactly be a new idea but a revamp of the 2016 Dodge Challenger Shakedown Concept. The 2016 Shakedown made its first appearance at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show In Las Vegas, Nevada.

The all-new 2023 Shakedown is set to make its debut in the spring of 2023. Being the first at the end of the line for this group is a big task for any car. Dodge must be sure that the Shakedown will live up to the hype and start things well.

With the simultaneous release of all seven models, car fans will have something to look forward to all year. Each model will feature completely different options, color schemes, and various power capabilities.

8/10 Only 1,000 Models Will Be Made

The Dodge website says that there will only be 1,000 examples of the special edition Shakedown made. Of those, 1,000 there will be 500 Shakedown R/T Scat Pack in Destroyer Grey and another 500 models in the Scat Pack Widebody in Pitch Black.

With limited models available and specific colors in mind, fans will have a small window of opportunity to buy one of the Shakedowns. Expect these cars to move fast because of the limited edition factor and the fact that it's the end of the line.

No limited edition, end-of-the-line vehicle is complete without a few unique features setting it apart from past years' models. The 2023 Shakedown has multiple special features that Dodge is introducing with the 2023 model.

This car will be featuring a "legendary cold-air-grabbing Mopar Shaker hood. In addition to this, we will also see a special black Challenger grille badge and a Shakedown stripe with a red accent. These are just a few from a long list of special features.

6/10 Some Beloved Heritage Exterior Colors Will Be Available

Although the Shakedown will only be available in Destroyer Grey and Pitch Black, the opening of the series marks the return of historic heritage colors. Fans can look forward to seeing classics B5 Blue, Plum Crazy Purple, and Sublime Green.

5/10 A 6.2-Liter Hemi V8

The Shakedown will be rolling down the streets with a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine. This engine is capable of harnessing over 700 horsepower. Dodge uses this engine in several models, including the SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Redeye, Super Stock, and the SRT Demon.

A serious engine for a serious sendoff, Dodge will be creating a last-of-the-line powerhouse. Most Charger and Challenger fans expect power and will reject it if Dodge gives them anything less.

4/10 The Price

Although Dodge is yet to release an exact price for the series leading shakedown, it is safe to expect a price hike. Current Challengers are selling at just over $52,000, and the end-of-line vehicle will probably be $10,000 more.

Considering the limited production of only 1,000 vehicles, a $65,000 price tag for the new Shakedown is a safe bet. It seems to be an accurate and fair price for the Shakedown.

3/10 Orders Expected To Open Soon

Dodge says the orders will open in the fall, which means that orders may start any day now. Now a month into fall, Dodge fanatics may start to get a bit impatient.

Dodge also says that the last-call model will be available to high-volume showrooms when they are ready. The hunt in tracking one down is set to begin any day now, and the high-volume showrooms will get a sales boost.

In addition to the features from earlier, the Shakedown will feature some personalization. Dodge says each Challenger and Charger will carry a special commemorative "Last Call" plaque underneath the hood.

The "Last Call" plaque will include the car's nameplate and silhouette. Adding to that, the plaque will also bear the phrases "designed in Auburn Hills" and "assembled in Brampton." These small features make the car a bit more collectible.

What is the Challenger shakedown?

The limited-edition Challenger Shakedown is anchored by 20-by-9.5-inch Low Gloss Black Slingshot wheels, while Widebody models have 20-by-11-inch Carbon Black Warp Speed wheels. Meanwhile, the interior is decked out with Premium Black Nappa and Alcantara seats with plenty of red stitching throughout.

Is Dodge discontinuing the Challenger in 2023?
