Model Preview
The Toyota RAV4 is a popular compact crossover with off-road-ready styling and a ton of standard active safety features. There are rumors of a potential refresh coming for the 2023 model year, but nothing has been confirmed by Toyota at this point. The RAV4 had its last refresh back in 2019, which means it is getting a little long in the tooth compared to other vehicles on the market. However, the RAV4 does seem to match the current styling of Toyota’s latest designs so a refresh may be light. We’d most like to see Toyota update the RAV4’s marginal headlights for 2023, which are unquestionably the weakest link for the vehicle.
While a refresh is possible for the 2023 model year, we aren’t sure what it would entail yet. The current RAV4 has rugged exterior styling, nodding towards the larger 4Runner which has turned into a cash cow for Toyota. Inside, the RAV4 features a simple yet modern design, with some luxury touches. If Toyota does give us a refresh, it is possible that it could feature styling similar to the new 2023 Sequoia.
Details are unknown about an engine update, but it seems unlikely. The current RAV4 comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder for 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque which is considered adequate for the model. Those looking for more power or efficiency are served by the Hybrid And Prime models, which are covered separately.
Safety is one of Toyota’s strong suits, with all models featuring a wide array of standard active safety features. Currently, the RAV4 comes standard with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring and rear automatic emergency braking. However, the current LED headlights are lacking, and offer a real opportunity for improvement.
Pricing & Release Date
No release date has been confirmed for the 2023 RAV4, but typically we get the new model year in the fall.
Toyota hasn’t released 2023 RAV4 pricing either, but changes are likely dependent on that redesign. If we get a carryover model, pricing should stay the same. Current models range between $27,740 and $37,680 depending on trim level. A redesign may come with a price increase and could see prices push upwards by a couple of thousand dollars across the board.
The Toyota RAV4 has competitors in the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Escape, Ford Bronco Sport, Subaru Forester, and Mazda CX-5.
As we learn more, we will keep you updated.
