Chrome Remote Desktop App without Browser
0
I was clicking the Chrome Remote Desktop icon on the desktop to access Chrome Remote Desktop. It was its own icon - The screen inside a screen icon for it. This launched the app WITHOUT the browser. In fact, I could open the browser and it would show one instance of chrome open even while remote access was open in another window. I'm trying to replicate this after re-installing Chrome. I can right-click on the remote devices on pagehttps://remotedesktop.google.com/access/and select 'open link in chrome remote desktop' to activate the window outside of the browser. But how can I get the icon back on the desktop for a quick launch? The is no way to drag like a normal app.

In the Chrome browse enter the address https://remotedesktop.google.comwhich will take you to the 'chrome remote desktop' launch page. You should see a dialog in the botom right of your screen asking you "Would you like to install Chrome Remote Desktop to this device? With an installed app, you'll be able to use more keyboard shortcuts and the browser toolbar will take up less space" Click the INSTALL button, follow the instructions and you should be in business. The link to launch the app appears in the start menu, so you'll need to drop a link from there to the desktop.

Incidently, I had trouble replicating this to compile this reply; I finished up uninstalling the remote desktop extension and reinstalling chrome and actually used Edge (Chromium) as the browser for the first step. So you may need to do some fiddles to get the offer download the app!!

Try creating this shortcut link

Target:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome_proxy.exe" --profile-directory=Default --app-id=efmjfjelnicpmdcmfikempdhlmainjcb
Start in:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application"
Run: Normal Window

These are the properties of the icon that is created by the install. I've copied it to other computers and seems to work without any problems. You don't need to re-install the extension
