"Bánh mì" chính thức xuất hiện trong từ điển Merriam-Webster bên cạnh 9 từ khác liên quan đến lĩnh vực ẩm thực.

Merriam-Webster, một công ty xuất bản từ điển nổi tiếng của Mỹ vừa công bố cập nhật thêm 370 mới, trong đó có 9 từ liên quan đến lĩnh vực ẩm thực. Đặc biệt trong đó có món “bánh mì” nổi tiếng thế giới của Việt Nam.

Bánh mì Việt Nam đã vượt ra khỏi biên giới quốc gia và để lại dấu ấn trong nền ẩm thực thế giới.

Merriam-Webster định nghĩa “banh mi” là “một loại bánh mì kẹp thường có vị cay trong ẩm thực Việt Nam. Bánh được tách đôi và có nhân bên trong thường là thịt (heo hoặc gà) và các loại rau muối (như cà rốt và củ cải), dưa chuột và một chút mùi ngò. ”

Merriam-Webster nói rằng việc bổ sung các món ăn được công nhận trên khắp các châu lục thông qua thực đơn, công thức nấu ăn và các buổi trình diễn nấu ăn, do đó những món ăn này xứng đáng được thêm vào từ điển.

Đại diện của Merriam-Webster cho biết: “Chúng tôi chọn những từ mới để đưa vào từ điển dựa trên bộ ba tiêu chí: sử dụng thường xuyên, phổ biến và có ý nghĩa.

Bánh mì là món ăn Việt Nam được nhiều người ưa chuộng.

Bên cạnh “bánh mì”, năm nay Merriam-Webster còn bổ sung một số món ăn khác như sữa yến mạch “sữa yến mạch”, phong cách ẩm thực Nhật Bản “omakase”, bột gia vị bánh bí ngô “pumpkin spice”, hay “plant-based” là từ dùng để chỉ thức ăn làm từ thực vật.

Trước bánh mì, phở cũng đã chính thức xuất hiện trong từ điển Merriam-Webster vào năm 2014.

Vốn là một món ăn có xuất xứ từ phương Tây, nhưng sự tinh túy và sáng tạo không ngừng trong món bánh mì bình dân của Việt Nam đã khiến nó được định danh và ghi dấu ấn mạnh mẽ trên bản đồ ẩm thực thế giới

Gaslighting - thao túng tâm trí

“Gaslighting" - lừa dối, thao túng tâm trí - được gọi tên “từ của năm" theo trang từ điển online Merriam-Webster.

Gaslighting chưa có từ tương ứng trong Tiếng Việt. Từ này ban đầu có ý chỉ hành vi “thao túng tâm lý một người trong một thời gian dài làm cho nạn nhân nghi ngờ chính cảm nhận, kí ức và nhận thức của mình”.

Tuy nhiên trong thời đại thông tin, từ này nổi lên với ý nghĩa rộng hơn, chỉ chung tất cả những hành vi lừa dối ai đó có kế hoạch nhằm mục đích chuộc lợi. Đặc biệt năm nay 2022, lượt tìm kiếm từ gaslighting tăng 1.740% trên website của Merriam-Webster.

Cụm từ này được sử dụng rộng rãi trên nhiều nền tảng mạng xã hội, thậm chí còn được sử dụng trên nhiều tờ báo và tạp chí có uy tín trên thế giới như The New York Times, Psychology Today.

Oligarch - tài phiệt

Danh từ "Oligarch" (tài phiệt) chỉ những nhóm cá nhân đã tích lũy được khối tài sản cực kì lớn và thường có liên hệ chặt chẽ với nhóm quan chức có địa vị rất cao.

Năm 2022, cụm từ này được nhiều người quan tâm do thông tin lệnh trừng phạt của các nước phương Tây nhắm vào tài sản tại nước ngoài của giới siêu giàu Nga.

Omicron - biến thể của SARS-CoV-2

Tổ chức Y tế Thế giới (WHO) dùng các chữ cái Hy Lạp để đặt tên lần lượt cho các biến thể của virus COVID. Vào tháng 11/2021, WHO đã dùng tới chữ thứ 15 trong bảng chữ cái Hy Lạp.

Đây cũng là biến chủng lây lan nhiều nhất trong năm 2022. Lượng tra cứu từ "Omicron" tăng tương ứng theo số ca nhiễm vào đầu tháng 1/2022. Đầu tháng 11, từ này “hot" trở lại sau khi có báo cáo vaccine tăng cường mới chống lại biến thể Omicron không có tác dụng hơn quá nhiều so với vaccine bình thường.

Sentient - sinh vật có tri giác

Vào tháng 6 khi một kỹ sư Google thông báo rằng một AI (robot có trí tuệ nhân tạo) của công ty đã tồn tại “tri giác” giống như con người, lượng tìm kiếm từ “sentinent" (tri giác) tăng vọt.

Tuy rằng tuyên bố này sau đó bị Google phủ nhận triệt để, nhưng sự việc cũng đã làm tăng sự quan tâm của nhiều người về tương lai của trí tuệ nhân tạo.

Loamy - đất tơi

Trong năm 2022, nhiều trò chơi đoán từ như Wordle (người chơi được phép đoán 6 lần để xác định 1 từ), Qourdle (đoán 9 lần để xác định cụm 4 từ) và nhiều biến thể khác đã nổi lên như một trò chơi giải trí nhẹ nhàng thú vị mới.

Từ “loamy" (đất tơi xốp) là câu trả lời cho câu đố ngày 29/8 của trò chơi Quordle, khiến cho lượt tìm kiếm từ này trên trang Merriam-Webster tăng hàng triệu phần trăm.

Raid - Đột kích

Khi FBI khám xét tại ngôi nhà Mar-a-Lago của cựu tổng thống Donald Trump vào đầu tháng 8, sự kiện này được một số người gọi là "raid" (cuộc đột kích). Điều này khiến lượng tìm kiếm từ “raid" tăng tới 970% trên trang từ điển.

Queen Consort - Vương hậu

Sau khi Nữ hoàng Elizabeth II mất, Vua Charles cùng Vương hậu Camilla được nhận tước danh mới. Nhanh chóng cụm từ “Queen consort” (Vương hậu - Vợ của Vua) rất được quan tâm.

Do nước Anh đã không có vua kể từ năm 1952 nên cụm từ này cũng trở nên xa lạ, nhiều người cũng không nắm rõ các tước danh trong Hoàng gia Anh khiến cho lượng tra cứu từ "Queen Consort" tăng đáng kể.
