We have a Latitude 3590 laptop that will not power on. When I hit the power button, the light comes on for about 15 seconds before turning off but the fan doesn't start or anything else. I was able to get it to come up once this morning and there was a message that the date/time were incorrect. I ran the diagnostics to make sure everything was good and there were no errors. When I exited, it shut down and now it's doing the same thing. I took the battery out and just tried it using the power adapter but that didn't fix it. I'm not sure what else to try.

So after chatting with Dell support, even though the device is out of warranty, they had me hold the power button in for 60 seconds while plugged in. Once I let go, the fans kicked on but the screen was still black. After a couple of minutes, I held the power button to turn it off and then powered it back on. It took me to the diagnostics screen where it said the date and time were not set. I hit Continue and it booted to Windows. The time was wrong so I changed that but I have been able to reboot and shutdown/turn on multiple times with no issues. Thanks for all the input.

With the battery out and unplugged,press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to fully discharge any stored power on the board. Once you have done this put the battery back in and try to power it on.

I took the battery out again and held down the power button for 30 seconds. Reconnected the battery and plugged into power but I still just get the power light to come on for 15 seconds with no fans or anything else starting.

If you're not getting bios screen try remove ram card and re plug it again

Just FYI... not saying this could be the issue but it could. I found some older dells stopped powering on with wireless mouse receivers in the usb ports. When I removed the usb receiver and powered it on.... We Have Lift Of!!! Just something to check in case you are having the same issue. Again this was older dells but it's possible you are having a similar issue. Also had an issue with Lenovo laptops where we had to re-seat the cmos batteries then the laptop would power up normally. Again both older model laptops for Dell and Lenovo. In both cased laptop powers on then does nothing until I did the fix.

Have you tried the pressing FN+Power button together to initiate the diagnostics, I know this works for some models. If a test fails get that error/fail code and look it up. Just another thought.

Do you mean remove a RAM stick and try? I don't have anything else plugged into the laptop. I did try FN+power and I think that's what took me to it before but I can't get it to come up now.

Sounds like a hardware failure somewhere internally. How old is the machine?

Had a similar issue with a Dell Inspiron (home machine) a few years ago. Machine was still under warranty and Dell had to replaced the motherboard...

It was bought in January 2019.
There is no light on the battery charging light but the documentation shows it is only lit when critically low on battery bower or charging on A/C power. It's not lit when I plug in the charger but it may be fully charged, which would not make it light up.

The user documentation doesn't show it will light, but the service manual will... as far as I know, all dell laptops are using the charging light as the POST diagnostic... if it doesn't light up at all though, issue might be with motherboard or with cpu... <edit> to include the link to the Latitude notebook LED diagnostics documentation: A reference guide for Latitude Notebook and Tablet Diagnostic Indicators
