  3. Does FFXI Run on Windows 10?

I2aScAII 4 years ago#1

I installed Final Fantasy XI and got everything setup, but when I launch the game, it wants me to install something. I don't know what it is because by the time it wants me to install something, it crashes my whole computer.

Does anyone have Final Fantasy XI running on Windows 10? I think it's Direct Viewer I need to install, but I can't get past it crashing my computer.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I thought they shut down the servers for that game awhile ago.

They've stopped releasing content, so it is effectively 'done'. The servers are still pretty populated.

OP is better off asking on the Square Enix boards. Their tech support forum is full of errors and bugs people have found.

Go to control panel\Programs\Turn Windows features on or off
Locate Legacy components put a check mark on DirectPlay and pick OK. That should get windows 10 to install what you need.

While it's true that there won't be any more expansions released for it (given its overall story is over and done with), they're still supporting it with monthly updates consisting of QoL fixes/adjustments and new (minor) features.

Yes it runs. Windower and As***a both work, too.

No, it's not dead.

A. SE support is terrible.
B. There are monthly content updates.

I figured out how, by enabling Legacy Windows on Windows 10. The problem is that game looks like it was built for Gamepads. I can't do anything with it like I can do with FFXIV.

I can't select targets, or get out of the beginning city. I thought I just wanted to try Final Fantasy 11 to finish my Final Fantasy collection, but holy s*** is that game unplayable.

Anyways, thanks for all the help!

While I do like playing the game with a gamepad, it is very playable with the keyboard and mouse. I know people on the game that played it with just keyboard and mouse for years without using a gamepad. You might want to look up the keyboard settings, since the game isn't made to play with just a mouse. (You might want to consider trying with only the keyboard.)
I don't know how you can have problems with simpler game controls compared to FFXIV. I got used to using FFXIV controls easy enough, FFXI is easier to play, but different. Maybe you never got to setting up macros yet.
