How many Alien vs Predator games are there?

The Alien and Predator are two of Hollywood's most iconic monsters with two massive franchises that have crossed over in both movies and comic book media based on the Alien and Predator movies. This made it only inevitable that the two series would get video game tie-ins.

The games over the years range from cash grabs to games that are considered all-time classics, with some even labeled as canon to the mythos. Which of these video games have fans felt immersed in the strange worlds of Alien and Predator and which games have fans screaming where it could not be heard?

24/24 Aliens: Colonial Marines (2013) - 5.1

Colonial Marines Battling Xenomorphs

It should come as no surprise that this game is the lowest-ranked on this list after the infamously abysmal launch it received due to mediocre visuals, promised aspects that were never delivered, and broken AI for the alien swarms that feel like mild inconveniences rather than the universe's perfect killing machine.

The only thing this game does right is bringing back actors like Michael Biehn (Hicks from Aliens) and introducing a new Xenomorph monster that is genuinely creepy.

23/24 Aliens: Thanatos Encounter (2001) - 5.6

Aliens: Thanatos Encounter Gameplay

This forgotten GameBoy Color game by THQ is fairly simple: play as one of five colonial marines, each with their own unique skills and weapons across twelve levels slaughtering aliens and rescuing survivors.

The game received mixed reactions due to some complaints about the perspective and the less than appealing color scheme. However, many reviews consider the game an enjoyable time-waster with plenty of tension due to the time limit.

22/24 Aliens: A Comic Book Adventure (1995) - 5.9

Aliens: A Comic Book Adventure Gameplay

Heavily inspired by the Dark Horse comics at the time, the game has Lt. Col. Henry Hericksen uncovering the mystery of what happened on the ship he was on.

Sporting some impressive graphics for the MS-DOS, the game does provide an intriguing story and locale but like most older point and click games, the inventory system can get tedious and the game's puzzles tend to be frustrating.

21/24 Predator: Hunting Grounds (2020) - 6.0

Predator: Hunting Grounds Predator

The most recent game released just this year, Predator: Hunting Grounds is a 1v4 multiplayer game in the same vein as the developers' previous game: Friday The 13th. One player as the Yautja Hunter must carefully and strategically take out all members of the human Fireteam before they can escape.

It did not have the best of launches due to having a bare minimum of content, glitches, and a lack of alternate modes. However, the game's popularity has risen due to continuous updates, content drops, and a frustrating yet still fun multiplayer mode.

20/24 Predator (1987) - 6.2

Predator On NES

Movie licensed games on the original NES are rarely ever good and while Predator is nowhere near as bad as others, it's still far from perfect. It's a typical action platformer that pales in comparison to games like Contra but it does have its addictiveness.

The biggest issues gamers had are the ugly graphics and the levels and enemies also suffer from having nothing to do with the movie as well as multiple Predators instead of the one.

19/24 Alien Vs Predator: Requiem (2007) - 6.2

Wolf Predator From AVP Requiem

An exclusive title for the PSP, this game was based on the recent movie at the time of the same name. Unlike other Alien Vs. Predator games, this one only allows players to experience things from the Predator's point of view.

Much like with the NES game, it's not terrible but not good either: the third-person combat is okay, it's very repetitive, but it features some genuinely decent graphics for the PSP with some nicely lit levels.

18/24 Predator 2 (1992) - 6.4

Predator 2 Gameplay

The first game was a mediocre action platformer while this sequel is only marginally better. This is due to more engaging gameplay and impressive visuals, but the isometric presentation can make traversal confusing. The enemies are boring but they do provide some challenge.

What kills Predator 2 is the absolutely awful sound design, with music that sounds like nails on a chalkboard and dated sound effects.

17/24 Alien: Resurrection (2000) - 6.5

Alien: Resurrection Gameplay

Since nobody liked Alien: Resurrection, hardly anybody cared about the years late tie-in video game so it was quickly forgotten. However, one might be surprised that not only is this another case where the game is better than the movie but it's actually decent.

It's from perfect, but it provides a chilling atmosphere, fun first-person shooter gameplay, and genuine scares.

16/24 Alien 3 (1992) - 6.8

Alien 3 On SNES

The infamous developers, LJN decided to just do their own thing here. The game features hordes of xenomorphs, Ripley carrying her pulse rifle/flamethrower combo from the second movie as she treks the prison planet to save prisoners and destroy the aliens.

Much like the movie, the game had fans divided but over the years, it has gotten better reviews.

15/24 Alien Trilogy (1996) - 6.9

Alien Trilogy
- FPS Gameplay

Despite having the title Alien Trilogy, this game only loosely follows the plot of the films but instead is just a series of levels put together to create a genuinely fun first-person action/horror experience as Lt. Ellen Ripley.

At the time, Alien Trilogy was considered the best Alien game for its movie-accurate locations and environments, and xenomorphs that were genuinely scary. It was a good start to the type of games Alien would soon evolve into.

14/24 Alien (1982) - 7.0

Alien (1982) Gameplay

Players control a character running through a maze-like grip collecting items and racking up points while avoiding multi-colored enemies that will eat them.

Sound familiar? That's because this game is simply a Pac-Man clone with the multi-colored blotches of pixels supposed to be xenomorphs. As uninspired as it is, it is a weirdly fun mod of Pac-Man.

13/24 Predator: Concrete Jungle (2005) - 7.2

Predator: Concrete Jungle Gameplay

The concept for this game is simple: a new Predator must correct a mistake and hunt down the criminals and corrupt organizations using the technology of his people in an alternate future.

The game does suffer from a terribly written story, cheesy and over the top characters, and controls that feel broken at times. However, the good outweighs the bad in a gory and brutal game that is a forgotten gem for the PlayStation 2.

12/24 Alien Versus Predator: Extinction (2003) - 7.4

The Queen From Alien Vs. Predator: Extinction

This AVP title swaps to a real-time strategy game in the same vein as StarCraft. With a franchise as big as these, it is healthy to experiment and try new things but unless given proper treatment: it can have disastrous results.

The gameplay is actually unique so instead of feeling like a StarCraft clone, it has deep and thoughtful mechanics that can take a while to learn.

11/24 Aliens Vs. Predator (2010) - 7.3

Alien Battling A Predator

With Lance Henriksen (Bishop from Aliens) starring across all three campaigns, a new planet to have fun in, and visuals that still look great even in 2020, this reboot impressed many.

The gameplay for all three campaigns is perfectly expanded, each story feels unique with a bizarrely effective attempt to create an iconic Xenomorph character alongside the Marine and Predator. However, the game suffered from the same problem as the original games: the campaigns are too short for something of this ambition and scale.

10/24 Aliens Online (1998) - 7.4

Aliens Online Gameplay

Often considered the predecessor to the iconic Aliens Versus Predator games, this multiplayer game pits humans and aliens against each other in class-based deathmatches with more players in matches than most games at the time.

With many classes to choose from, this game was ahead of its time and remains a fun game to check out.

9/24 Alien Vs. Predator (1993) - 7.5

Alien Vs. Predator (1993) Cover Art

Instead of atmospheric horror, this game decided to ditch all that and go for action and colorful insanity. This game embraces a beat-em-up style of gameplay similar to Streets Of Rage or Final Fight games but there are some that consider this game even better than those classics.

Players control the Predator moving from left to right across many levels taking on very colorful xenomorph types. It's not anything deep or complex but it is a ton of fun.

8/24 Aliens: Infestation (2011) - 7.5

Aliens Infestation Cover Art

This Nintendo DS title acts as a sort of spiritual successor of the LJN Alien 3 game: a sidescrolling shooter game with puzzle elements and massive areas to explore.

Gamers and fans considered the game a well-made throwback to 16-bit games from the 90s and felt that it should have been the game they received back then with the only issues being its more bright and colorful art style and gameplay that feels tired by the last act.

7/24 Alien 3: The Gun (1993) - 7.8

Alien 3: The Gun Gameplay

This game became a very successful arcade light-gun shooter that sucked down entire piggy banks filled with quarters. The game is fairly simple: point the light-gun at the screen and shoot alien swarms to survive as long as possible.

Combine the simplicity with visuals that are still very impressive for 1993, it's a great co-op experience that provides chills and thrills.

6/24 Aliens: Extermination (2006) - 7.8

Aliens Extermination Gameplay

Take everything that made Alien 3: The Gun so great, put it in James Cameron's world instead of the third movie, and add better graphics. The result is Aliens: Extermination, the definite spiritual successor that amps up the intensity, graphics, and gameplay.

This arcade game became a staple all over the world with many arcades still using it today: everything is much faster which can lead to some terrifying surprise attacks from the xenomorphs, the sound effects are straight out of the movie, and it's even more addictive.

5/24 Alien: Isolation (2014) - 8.1

Amanda
Ripley Battling The Alien In Alien: Isolation

After the disaster of Aliens: Colonial Marines, Sega gave fans Alien: Isolation, a perfect sequel to Scott's movie.

Alien: Isolation is often considered one of the best survival horror games ever made that competes with the likes of  Dead Space, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil for good reason. Beautiful visuals, the xenomorph's adaptive AI keeps players on their toes, and it has that terror fueling claustrophobic atmosphere that the movie portrayed so well.

Is there a Alien vs Predator game?

Predator is a 2010 first-person shooter video game developed by Rebellion Developments, the team behind the 1994 Atari Jaguar game and the 1999 Microsoft Windows game and published by Sega for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Will there be a Predator vs Alien 3?

AVP: Requiem put the brakes on Alien vs Predator 3… indefinitely. The Brothers Strause were ready to hop into development on a threequel. Sadly for them, AVP: Requiem pretty much ensured that'd never happen – with them at the helm, anyway.

How many levels are in Alien vs Predator?

The game is a side-scrolling beat 'em up where the player takes on the role of the Predator as they move through levels fighting Alien Drones, Chestbursters and Facehuggers. The game has six levels (although some are split into two or three separate points) and has a boss Alien for each level.

Was Alien vs Predator a flop?

Alien vs. Predator was theatrically released on 12 August 2004. It received generally negative reviews and grossed $177.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $60–70 million. A direct sequel, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, was released in 2007.
