Motogp race schedule 2023 in india

India will stage a MotoGP race at the Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi from 2023, organisers said on Friday.

Commercial rights holders Dorna Sports said earlier this month that they were in talks with the state government of Uttar Pradesh and India's sports ministry.

"We have a lot of fans in India and we're excited to be able to bring the sport to them," Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said in a statement.

"India is also a key market for the motorcycle industry and therefore, by extension, for MotoGP as the pinnacle of the two-wheeled world."

The 5.14km track on the outskirts of New Delhi held Formula One races between 2011-13 before it was dropped from the calendar.

The announcement comes after MotoGP earlier this week said it had agreed a five-year deal to stage races at the Sokol International Racetrack in Kazakhstan from 2023.

MotoGP's 2023 season will begin with a race at Portugal's Algarve International Circuit in Portimao from March 24-26.

During the Aragon GP weekend at the start of September, reports emerged from India that MotoGP was eyeing a race at the Buddh International Circuit – former host of the country’s Formula 1 grand prix – from 2023.

Dorna Sports chiefs Carmelo and Carlos Ezpeleta travelled to India after the Aragon round to sign a seven-year deal to bring the series to the country with event promoter FairStreet Sports.

While it was thought 2023 was unlikely to be a realistic first year of the Indian Grand Prix, MotoGP has announced that it will feature on next season’s schedule.

With a recent deal signed with the Sokol Circuit to bring Kazakhstan onto the calendar from 2023, MotoGP will have a massive presence in Asia.

As well as India and Kazakhstan, MotoGP will take in races in Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Qatar.

"We’re very proud to announce that Buddh International Circuit will be on the 2023 calendar,” Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said.

“We have a lot of fans in India and we’re excited to be able to bring the sport to them.

“India is also a key market for the motorcycle industry and therefore, by extension, for MotoGP as the pinnacle of the two-wheeled world.

“We very much look forward to racing at Buddh International Circuit and can’t wait to welcome the fans through the gates to see this incredible sport in person.”

F1 raced at the Buddh Inernational Circuit from 2011 to 2013, though the Indian GP found itself off the calendar from 2014 due to financial, bureaucratic and taxation reasons.

A full provisional calendar is expected to be announced in due course, with the 2023 season set to be the longest in history at 22 if both India and Kazakhstan do go ahead.

The 2023 season will start on 26 March in Portugal as traditional season-opener venue Losail in Qatar had to be pushed back to the end of the calendar due to facility upgrades taking place at the circuit for F1’s return to the country next year.

A new opening venue and the addition of two Grands Prix in India and Kazakhstan will highlight the 2023 MotoGP schedule.

The 2023 MotoGP season will kick off March 24th with the opening round in Portugal instead of the typical trip to Qatar. Work on the Losail International Circuit pushed their date back to the penultimate weekend after the series finishes a series of races around the Pacific Rim.

Following Portugal, MotoGP heads to Argentina and the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for their only visit to the United States before heading back to Europe for most of the next 10 rounds.

Interrupting the long European stint will be the series’ first visit to the Sokol International Circuit in Kazakhstan on July 7, 2023. The traditional summer break will be three weeks and then MotoGP heads to England for the British GP in August.

After three more European rounds at Austria, Catalunya and San Marino, the second new date on the calendar will come on the 16-turn, Buddh International Circuit for a September 24 race date. Both the India and Kazakhstan races are subject to homologation and approval by the circuit.

The next six races will be held in Asia and Oceania before Qatar and Valencia close out the schedule.

“We’re very proud to announce that Buddh International Circuit will be on the 2023 calendar,” said Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna, which manages the series. “We have a lot of fans in India and we’re excited to be able to bring the sport to them.

“India is also a key market for the motorcycle industry and therefore, by extension, for MotoGP as the pinnacle of the two-wheeled world. We very much look forward to racing at Buddh International Circuit and can’t wait to welcome the fans through the gates to see this incredible sport in person.”

One of two new races announced for 2022, in Finland, did not materialize this season and has not been added to the 2023 MotoGP schedule. In addition, the Aragon GP has been removed to keep the rounds at 21.

Four riders from the Talent Cup (TC), a collection of series designed to develop up-and-coming racers in their early and mid-teens, have been hand selected by the series to run in the 2023 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.

Shinya Ezawa was promoted from the Asia Talent Cup, Rhys Stephenson from the British Talent Cup, Kevin Farkas from the Northern Talent Cup, and Dodo Boggio will represent the European Talent Cup as they take their next step up the ladder.

Japanese rider Ezawa finished second to Malaysia’s Hakim Danish in the Asia TC this year in his first season. Ezawa posted victories in the opening race in Qatar and in his home GP in Motegi, Japan. Danish and Carter Thompson announced earlier in the year they will make the move up the ladder.

This year, Stephenson finished second in the British TC to Johnny Garness, who is not eligible to participate in the Rookies Cup due to age restrictions. Stephenson failed to win one of the British TC’s 16 races but sat on the pole four times.

Farkas will represent Hungary after finishing second in his division as well. Farkas scored five wins this year, including a sweep of the Assen weekend. Rossi Moor won the 2022 title.

Boggio swept the weekend at Jerez for his two European TC wins and stood on the podium twice more in 2022.

Launched in 2007, the Red Bull Rookies Cup is one of the first steps on the MotoGP ladder. Johan Zarco won the inaugural championship in this division before going on to stand on the podium 30 times in Moto2 and 15 times in the senior division. Other notable graduates from the Talent Cup series who have raced in MotoGP include Joan Mir, Brad Binder and Enea Bastianini, who won four times in 2022, most recently in the Aragon GP. Mir won the MotoGP championship in 2020

In 2022, Jose Antonio Rueda won the Red Bull Rookies Cup title with three wins to his credit. He backed that up with seven more top-fives to beat Collin Veijer by 14 points in the 14-race season.

The North America Talent Cup launched in 2022 and has not yet produced a Rookie Cup graduate. Alessandro di Mario beat Jesse Shedden by only one point in the 14-race calendar.
