-But can see gram positives (mostly in nursing homes)
•MRSA
•S. Pneumoniae
-High risk patient include:
•Post operative
patients
•Endotracheal tube patients
•Mechanically assisted patients
•Mycoplasma Pneumonia
-AKA primary atypical pneumonia or walking pneumonia
-Children older than 5 and young adults most at risk
-Long incubation phase (2-3 weeks)
-Transmitted via hand to hand contact or aerosolized
•Anaerobic Pneumonia (still bacteria)
-Can occur inpatient and in community
-Aspiration is most common cause
•Individuals with larger amounts of oropharyngeal secretions at
greater risk
-Alcoholism the most common predisposing factor
-Dysphagia
-Strokes
-Seizures
-Anesthesia
-Usually insidious onset
•Pt. may present with lung abscess, empyema
