The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced the 2023 school calendar year for primary and secondary schools, junior colleges (JC) and Millennia Institute (MI) in a press release on Wednesday (Oct 19). The 2023 school year for MOE secondary schools will start from Jan 3 and end on Nov 17. This will be the same for MOE primary and kindergarten schools. For schools that will be used as venues for the GCE O-Level written examinations, the last day of the final school term will be on Oct 27. JC and MI Year One students will start their first term on Feb 3; JC Year Two, MI Year Two and Three students will begin theirs on Jan 9. Primary and secondary schools, JCs and MI will see four vacation periods throughout the year. The vacation periods are between Terms One and Two (Mar 11 to Mar 19), between Semesters One and Two (May 27 to Jun 25), between Terms Three and Four (Sep 2 to Sep 10), and for primary and secondary schools, a year-end break from Nov 18 to Dec 31. The year-end break for JC Year One, MI Year One and Two students will be from Nov 25 to Dec 31. For JC Year Two and MI Year 3 students, it will span from the end of their GCE A-Level examinations to 31 Dec. There will be 10 public holidays and four scheduled school holidays. The school holidays are: the day after National Day (Aug 10), Teachers Day (Sep 1) and Children’s Day (Oct 6). Youth Day (Jul 2), which falls on a Sunday, will take effect on the following Monday (Jul 3).
