A restart fixes it but you can also open task manger find explorer.exe and kill it.. then in taskmanger open the run dialog box and start explorer.exe (explorer is most of the graphic interface in windows if you fuck it up a restart fixes it)

Win + Shift + S won't work for me anymore. Whenever i press it, it just load for a little and then nothing happens. This has been going on for almost a year, i've tried messing with settings, restarting my pc, uninstalling and installing again. It just suddenly stopped working. Can someone help me?

Win+Shift+S to select and area to take a screenshots stopped working about three weeks ago.

Here are some screenshots to go along with this post.

I am using Windows 10, and when I press the keys it doesn't take a screenshot or bring up the selection box. Using the same keyboard on my work device, it does work. After a lot of research it was initially suggested I try to do some repairs, which didn't fix it, then I ran in to this article. I tried everything, but when I attempt to enable notifications I don't see snip & sketch as an option in the app list. I think this could be the problem, or at least part of of it, but I don't know how to make it appear in the list.

From the screenshots, in example 1, if I click on the "take a new snip" button it says "you'll need a new app to open this ms-screenclip link." If I take a full screen snip from the system tray it does work and pops up snip and sketch afterward. When I click on the store link it tries to search for an app called "ms-screenclip" and no results come up.

Example 2, the settings say to use the PrtScn button but that doesn't work either - and it isn't the hotkey I want to use.

Example 3 - If I load up the old snipping tool it says that we have switched to Snip & Sketch and to use Win+Shift+S. This doesn't work.

I've done a repair of snip and sketch, and a full reinstall of snip and sketch. When reinstalling I noticed a lot of poor reviews recently on the app store, with some saying that the shortcut didn't work for them either. Some were windows 11 users saying the most recent update fixed it for them, but I'm not going to Windows 11 until I can put the taskbar on the right side vertically.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: For those who come here in the future, the answer given by u/dblokillo solved this. I had to go in to an admin powershell instance, run DISM /Online /Remove-Capability /CapabilityName:Windows.Client.ShellComponents~~~~0.0.1.0, restart, then run DISM /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Windows.Client.ShellComponents~~~~0.0.1.0. Problem solved.
