Comparisons are limited to 3 vehicles

You will need to remove one of the selected vehicles in order to add another one.

Unlike other websites and magazines, our ratings are not based solely on a singular road test, but rather a more encompassing batch of criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value. When comparing vehicles using our Rating System, it's important to note that the rating earned by each vehicle correlates only to the models within its class. For example, a compact car cannot be compared to a SUV—They are different vehicles altogether.

You can interpret our ratings in the following way:

5-Star: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.

4-Star: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

3-Star: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

2-Star: Below average vehicle. Not recommended, and lacking attributes a car buyer would come to expect for the price.

1-Star: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.

Behold, we may know when the flood gates will open. The 2022 Ford Maverick is completely sold out for the year, meaning you have to wait to order a 2023 Ford Maverick model. The Maverick order and production dates may have been leaked, so here’s what to expect.

According to Maverick Truck Club, the order banks for the 2023 Ford Maverick will open on August 16, 2022. Then production of those Maverick models will start on October 24, 2022. That’s only a two-month wait between ordering and production.

However, you may have to wait a little longer to receive your truck, depending on your order’s production and delivery dates. Also, because these dates are months away, they are subject to change. The ongoing semiconductor chip shortage, supply chain problems, and transportation issues may cause delays.

Ford experienced overwhelming demand for the Maverick. As a result, keeping up with current orders has become a struggle. Ford had to close orders for the 2022 model to catch up before production of the 2023 model begins.

Is the 2023 Maverick worth waiting for?

If the 2023 Ford Maverick is your dream truck, it is worth waiting months. However, you can consider the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz if you want something now. We aren’t sure why this little truck isn’t getting as much love.

While the Ford Maverick Hybrid starts at $20,000, it can only tow up to 2,000 lbs and can’t be equipped with all-wheel drive. The Hyundai Santa Cruz starts at about $24,140. That’s not much more than the gas-powered XLT Maverick, which begins at about $23,000.

The Maverick comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with a hybrid system to crank out 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.

With the Hyundai Santa Cruz, you get a 2.5-liter inline-four engine with 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo for 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.

When properly equipped, the Maverick can tow up to 4,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,500 lbs. The Santa Cruz can tow up to 5,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,906 lbs.

What’s new for the 2023 Maverick?

The 2023 Ford Maverick is expected to primarily be a carry-over model with a starting price of about $20,000. But we may learn about some juicy upgrades as we inch closer to the production date.

Maverick fans are pushing for the hybrid model to be available with AWD. It uses the same platform as the Ford Bronco Sport and Escape, so we hope that it would be easy to add AWD. However, the hybrid setup is different from the gas-powered model.

Currently, the Maverick is offered with the FX4 off-roading package. The package does enhance its off-roading capabilities, but people want more. Rumors about a Maverick Tremor have been floating around. Also, we could see a new street racing trim.

We will keep you updated as we learn more about the Maverick and its production date. We hope everything stays on track because we’re ready to see more Maverick models in the wild.
