My old sound machine died after many years of service. I decided I didn't need to replace it and went a couple of years without. Then I started having a hard time falling back to sleep when I woke in the middle of the night. Back to the sound machine idea.

Did a lot of research and reading of reviews. I need a machine I can use at home but also at camp. We do three camps a year and two of them are on electrical sites. My old sound machine ran on AC or batteries. Unfortunately, this one runs on AC only. No battery option. I figure I can go that one non-electrical camp without the sound machine but if I can't it will mean having to buy another unit that has the battery option, to be used at that one camp only.

This unit has lots of various sounds and multiple loudness levels. I have mine on plain white noise - I think it is listed as a fan noise - at probably level 3 for loudness - and that works perfectly fine for me. When I do wake in the night and my mind wants to start solving all the world's problems, I force myself to concentrate on the sound and I fall back asleep right away.

Good unit. Very compact. No looping that I can discern (which did drive me crazy on my old sound machine). A little pricey considering it can't run on batteries as an alternate but still, I am happy with the purchase.

This machine is fine. Works great, nice small size, large range of sounds. I did find that most of them probably would have been too distracting for me to sleep, but I'm pretty sensitive to noise. One seemed ok, but I had to turn the volume down pretty low to be able to sleep with it, even with earplugs in. I only used it one night, so I can't review most features. The reason for the three-star rating isn't the machine itself, just the fact that it doesn't block the noise that gives me problems. I live in an older apartment that isn't sound-proofed at all. Any impact from footsteps upstairs to things falling to the front door slamming, reverbs through the walls and floors and wakes me up. I wasn't sure if a white noise machine would be able to counteract that, and sadly, it wasn't. If your problem is more ambiental noise like cars, dogs, people talking, etc, I think it would work well for that.
