Just scored this receiver at the local thrift for $30! I did a few searches here on AK and elsewhere and can't seem to find a hole lot of info on it. One of the things that I did read is that it is somewhat of an uncommon piece. I cleaned up the face a little and hooked up my HPM 100's to it, man, what a powerhouse! I do however now feel the need to buy a pair of Mach Ones

Only 2 of the 7 indicator lights work so they will need replaced. The selector switch is a little finicky too but for what I paid, how can I complain.

As realistic goes that series is highly regarded. Shhh, keep it under your hat. Lots of RS sleepers and we don't want to wake the natives.

Sweet haul, I have the 2000 and the 2100D, both are excellent units.

Very under-rated receivers, that's for sure. Matched with the Mach One's, it's a piece of audio history

I recall that 2000D pumped out tons of bass and it was very under-rated at 75wpc. Enjoy!!

I am really enjoying this thing! A sleeper for sure, should go up in value when everybody catches on.

Here is all the info you need: http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/catalogs/1979/ on page 4.

The 2000 was in the Radio Shack catalogs for 4 years. It first came out in 1977 as their TOTL model and your 2000D came out with the Dolby FM version in 1979. It lasted until 1980 until it got replaced by the STA 2080 in 1981.

I really like the 2000. It sound great with a pair of Nova 7B's. The two aux inputs come in handy.

Ohhhhhh. I'm going to keep my eyes open, I wonder how it would compare to my Pioneer SX-780.

I almost forgot about those. One of the few receivers I`ve seen with two auxs.

In terms of brute power and dynamic headroom, it would have the 780 in duress w/o breaking a sweat and would give a 980 a run for its $. I sold mine recently along with a KR-7600 when two younger guys came over to buy their first real 2-channel set-ups, and the 2000D could easily match the Kenny`s 80wpc rating. The guy who bought the Realistic matched them with a pair of large Celestion floor speakers and the Kenny went home with smaller Polk 7A`s. I sorta regret selling it and the only reason I did was because I like my lower powered STA-90 better for the overall sound it produces. I was thinking of calling the guy to see if he wants my other KR-7600 instead, but I believe he likes a lot of bass, which the 2000D makes ample amounts of.

I guess I should change that. The Steelers had a bad year. The Penguins had a great year but no Stanley Cup.

I have a mint 2000D not working, pretty sure it's a dirty speaker relay.

It is one heavy receiver.

Thanks! I really enjoy looking at those old Rat Shack catalogs. Times sure have changed at the shack.

Thanks for that comparison info. I'll keep it in mind.

Definitely a nice haul. I worked for RS in the 80's and we had some carry over receivers from that era. Hard to go wrong with most of the stuff from the mid 80's and earlier. I've had Mach Two's and now Mach One's. Each has it's pluses, but either do very well with that receiver. My STA-2500 keeps chugging along. Only issue I have is the volume pot is worn now and doesn't work the first 1/8-1/4 turn. Some day I'll fix it.

I just purchased the STA-2000D and have to agree it gives my SX-980 (recently recapped) a run for the money. I also have the KR-7600 and it can keep up with it as well. I for one am happy with the thick bass it produces. Pre-Amp connections an extra added bonus.
