It is pretty much what users expect a modern 15-inch multimedia laptop to be. It's well built, gets an IPS display, a decent keyboard and latest generations hardware that allows it to handle all sorts of tasks with ease, from daily activities to demanding chores and FHD gaming. The laptop provides good performance hardware. The Intel Core i7 7700HQ CPU and the Nvidia GTX 1050Ti GPU with 4 GB of dedicated VRAM offer excellent performance in everyday operations thanks to the 16 GB RAM. The storage space consists of a 256 GB Intel PCIe SSD where Windows 10 Home is installed, while a traditional 1 TB mechanical hard drive is dedicated to file archiving. This laptop is fairly compact for its class and about half a pound (~1/4 kg) lighter than the Helios 300 and the VX15, which matters if you plan to carry it around often. Its outer case is made from black brushed aluminum, used for the lid-cover and the interior, and hard black plastic, used for the sides and the underbelly. However, the dark brushed metal surfaces mean fingerprints and smudges are easily visible all over the place. The screen of this Aspire 7 is a 15.6” Full HD IPS screen. The hinges are noisy but good, you can open the screen up to 180 degrees. The display of the Acer Aspire 7 A715 has very stable viewing angles, and there should be no impact during normal use. It’s a decent option that will do for most users, the same one that’s available on the Aspire VX15 and Aspire 5. The weakness of this Aspire 7 is certainly autonomy. The battery is a 49 Wh unit that, combined with good performance hardware, provides short battery life. The premises were all there, but it was slightly disappointing to have around 4 hours of autonomy under normal usage with 50 % screen brightness. The autonomy dropped drastically to about 2 and a half hours when accelerated. The GTX 1050Ti is activated with more important processes by bringing the fans to run faster to dispose of more heat, thus decreasing the period of power on the laptop. When it comes to the I/O, almost everything user would expect from a mid-range multimedia computer is available, which are 3 USB Type A and 1 USB type C ports, HDMI output, LAN, card-reader, Kensington Lock. Only one of those USB ports supports USB 3.0 speeds though, and that USB 3.1 Type C port is limited to gen 1 5 Gbps speeds (thus no Thunderbolt 3), but these traits are common in this segment.
