Fall 2023 nail trends

Maybe it’s just me, but this year, I’m feeling particularly excited for fall. I’m looking forward to cooler temperatures, fall fashion trends, and cozy sweaters. For me, though, the best part of any seasonal change is the new nail trends. Fall typically signals a shift to darker, more muted colors. (Think jewel tones and chocolatey browns!)

This fall’s nail trends are some of the best I’ve seen in years. There are tons of rich, deep colors as well as plenty of playful designs. I tapped some of the best nail artists in the business to get their input on the trends we’ll soon be seeing everywhere—get your nail appointments booked early.

1. Glazed-Donut Nails

There’s no doubt about it—everyone wants Hailey Bieber’s glazed-donut nails. In a salon, you’ll want to opt for sheer milky-white nail polish with chrome powder on top, but at home, you can achieve the trend with a sheer chrome polish like this one from Orly.

New York Fashion Week might have ended, but we’re not done talking about it yet. Whether we're analyzing the best looks from the runways or seething with jealousy over chic street style looks, there is plenty of inspiration to draw from the September shows, for however long it takes. But it doesn’t stop at fashion. Here, we found the seven best nail trends we spotted on the runways and expect to see everywhere by next spring. Whether it’s a creamy nude or Barbiecore pink, we can’t wait to see these styles IRL. Plus, we found the best products to recreate these looks at home. If Gigi Hadid can wear these, so can you.

Chrome Nails

Subtle was nowhere to be found for these chromed-out metallic manicures. Nail artist Holly Falcone opted for shining, almost liquid-looking polish for both the Batsheva and Priscavera shows. Falcone isn’t the only nail artist who seems fascinated by the chromed look, either. Nail artist Naomi Yasuda used a silvery, mirror-effect gel for some of the nail looks at Tommy Hilfiger, too.

Milky Magic

For a look that everyone can mimic at home with minimal effort, a milky manicure is the upgraded nude. Appearing at shows like LoveShackFancy, Tory Burch, Ulla Johnson, and more, this cool, easy manicure is a must-have for the spring. Nadine Abramcyk, founder of Tenoverten, wanted an “buff-your-nails-but-better effect” for models walking for Tory Burch.

Vampy Red

The latest 2000s trend to make a comeback? None other than red vampy nails. Instead of relying on beige neutrals, models on the runways were often spotted with a bright red mani. That extra boldness and pop of color will be everywhere in the coming months, trust us.

French Tips

It turns out that French nails aren’t a trend that will disappear overnight. Appearing on the runways of Alice + Olivia, Tommy Hilfiger, Peter Do, Sandy Liang, and more, variations of the French mani reigned. Whether it’s a traditional white-tipped manicure, or you get creative with colors, this is a staple look that isn’t going anywhere.

Preppy Patterns

Grab your boat shoes and tennis racket, because the preppy trend has officially made its way onto manicures. Naomi Yasuda paid homage to Tommy Hilfiger’s classic styles with sets of nails that had stripes, checkers, and gingham patterns galore.

Simple is out, adorned is in. Think of it as the Euphoria effect but for nails, with nail artists like Gina Edwards and Holly Falcone adding everything from bubbles to chains to Bridgerton-esque press-ons tomodels’ hands.
