How can I check my DV-2023 results

On May 7, 2022, the US Department of State announced the Green Card winners for the DV-2023 Diversity Visa Lottery in the United States of America.

The United States will award up to 55,000 Green Cards for permanent residency in the US. If you entered the draw before November 9th, 2021, make sure you check to see whether you’ve won!

In this article, we’ll discuss what happens next for the winners, and what you can do if you weren’t successfully selected.

The Green Card Winners were announced on May 7th, 2022

The DV-2023 required-entry submission ended November 9th, 2021. It can be a bit confusing keeping track of the entry and announcement dates, but if you submitted last year, then you will be able to check if you are selected on May 7th, 2022, and onwards.

Enrollment of DV-2023 Diversity Lottery applicants was significantly lower than in previous years. This is due to what was known as the Passport Rule, which stated that only unexpired passport holders were eligible to apply.

Luckily, this rule was recently deemed unlawful in US courts. As such, applicants can now enter the Green Card Lottery without a valid passport. If you didn’t have a passport last year, this is obviously a good thing.

How to check if you are one of the lucky DV-2023 Green Card Lottery Winners.

If you used the paid Green Card Lottery service from the US Green Card Office you will be notified directly via email and a personal phone call from our or our immigration lawyers in the month of May 2022. If you can’t wait for that once-in-a-lifetime call from us then you can always log in to your account and check if you are selected from the 8th of May 2022.

Green Card winners using the free service aren’t notified directly after applications are drawn in the lottery. Instead, they must visit the Green Card Winner Status pages from May 8th, 2022 to see if they’ve won. As mentioned, the draw happens on May 8, so make sure you head over there to check if you are one of the 55,000 Green Card Winners.

You’ll need your confirmation number, along with your full name, birth year, and email address. Enter those into the form and the website will tell you if you were successful. Of course, this is only the first step towards living permanently in the US.

More than 125,000 registered applicants were selected as Green Card Winners and can now submit their DS-260 Visa Immigration Applications. The Diversity Lottery, which is granted under the Immigration and Nationality Act section 203(c), grants up to 55,000 permanent resident visas every year to people from countries with a low US immigration rate.

Some of the first 125,000 persons who were selected are unlikely to continue with their visa issuance, which means all 55,000 DV-2023 numbers are set to be used in the 2023 fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 30, 2023). If you are one of the lucky Green Card Winners it is important you submit your DS-260 as soon as possible as there will be a maximum of 55,000 Green Cards available.

The visas are divided among six geographical regions, with no more than 7% of people eligible for entrance from a single country.  Applicants will need to provide interviewers with proof of either a high school education (or equal education in applicants’ home country) or two years of occupational work experience that requires a minimum of two years of training or experience in the last five years.

What Comes Next for Green Card Winners

As mentioned, if you’re one of the lucky Green Card winners, you’ll need to continue applying for a visa by submitting the DS-260.

Chosen Green Card Winners must act immediately and submit their DS-260 applications. Notification letters will instruct applicants what they must do, including filling out the requested information completely.

The Diversity Visa Interview will typically happen at your closest US Embassy or Consulate. Don’t worry too much about the interview, it sounds more daunting than it is. All applicants that have applied directly on the US Green Card Office website will have full support from our immigration team regarding further processing and submission of the DS-260 form that is required to be able to obtain a visa interview date at the American Embassy.

If you did not use the service from the US Green Card Office when you applied we recommend you seek help from an immigration lawyer to avoid making any errors submitting your DS-260 form.

There are numerous reasons why you might be deemed ineligible during your application process. If that happens, you, unfortunately, won’t be able to get a visa through the lottery program.

What Happens if You Don’t Win?

Even though DV-2023 was a quiet year, there were still nearly 7 million applications filed. As such, there’s every chance you weren’t picked as one of the Green Card winners this year. But don’t worry if not, as it doesn’t mean the end of your visa journey.

The registration period for the 2022 (DV-2024) program is currently open, and anybody interested in obtaining a Green Card must submit an application quickly to the US Green Card Office to avoid missing the upcoming deadline.

Luckily, you can just reuse all the information you submitted on your previous application form, except your photo(s) as the US government does not accept photos used on your previous application.
