How to Keep a Monitor From Locking

If you've secured your computer with a Windows password to protect sensitive business data, when you step away from your desk for a while, Windows' automatic screen saver password locks your monitor. However, this could prove to be somewhat inconvenient. For instance, if you have a point-of-sale or invoicing computer you use frequently, a screen saver password could increasing the amount of time you use to ring up sales or create invoices. To avoid this, prevent Windows from locking your monitor with a screen saver, then lock the computer manually when you need to do so.

Right-click an area of the open Windows desktop, click Personalize, then click the Screen Saver icon.

Click the Change power settings link in the Screen Saver Settings window. After the Power Options window opens, click the Require a password on wakeup link in the left pane.

Click the radio button selector next to the Dont require a password option, then click the Save changes button.

Click the Change plan settings link next to the Balanced (recommended) option in the Power Options window.

Click the drop-down list arrow next to the Turn off the display option. Select Never in the drop-down list, then click the Save changes button.

Close the Power Options window. Windows no longer locks the computer when the screen saver activates or shuts down the monitor. When the screen saver appears on the screen, just press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse to return to the window you were using before the screen saver activated.
