DHC cleansing oil Review Reddit

I absolutely love it. I have rosacea type 1 and 2, ocular rosacea, and seb derm. Extremely sensitive skin that burns from most moisturizers and cleansers. DHC is great at getting my sunscreen off at night and has completely eliminated the flakes I used to deal with. My skin feels really good after using it. I’ve used it for the past year with zero issues. Just my experience, though, of course!

Yes, i should I have mentioned that. I double cleanse. I use on dry skin, massage gently, then I splash my face with water, then I use CeraVe Foming Facial Cleanser (which I really like). I alternate every other night between Paul's Choice BHA and a retinoid. And then moisturize with CeraVe Moisturizing Cream.

For reference:

  • dry skin --> super dry skin in winter

  • not really sensitive skin, although I don't like heavily fragranced products

  • wear contacts so must work well around my eye area/not make me blind lol (banila co looking at u)

  • wear sunscreen daily + full face of makeup on most days, dont really wear much eye makeup, used to wear mascara only. But i don't really wear mascara anymore tbh.

Now lets get on to the review! I'll order them in the order I've tried them.

  1. Banila Co Clean it Zero Cleansing Balm: I'd have to say, I used this a long long long time ago, its probably already been reformulated. I probably used it around the 2017 mark. Anyways, from what I remember, this was my first ever cleansing oil/balm ever, and i was wow'd. It removed my makeup relatively well, ie base makeup powder cheek makeup etc, but was quite meh at removing my waterproof mascara which was the kiss me heroine make. I would need to go in with a separate eye and lip remover. (just as i mentioned this, i recommend y'all to try out the nivea lip and eye remover, the one that has a dark blue layer and cleark layer. I've absoluetely never tried one thats better). The biggest issue with the banila co, is that it made my eyes and eyesight cloudy for a solid 10 secs. absolutee no go since i wear contacts, but whether i wear contacts or not, absolute no go. WNRP

  2. DHC Cleansing Oil: I used this for the absolute longest time every, 3 years (?), and I'll tell you why. This was the next one I met after the banila co, and I absolutely loved it. It removed everything so well, even my waterproof mascara. It couldn't remove my mascara 100%, I would say 80%. I would say the banila co would be at 30%. It also did not irritate my eyes. The oil is a bit thicker, now that I've tried other ones and can compare, but isn't really an issue for me since I double cleanse. Anyways, since I enjoyed this so much, I kept on using the same product for a couple of years. I never felt inclined or the need to change products, until..COVID hit. I live in Aus, so it was already difficult to get japanese products. COVID just made it worse, so i went into panic mode and went into a local brick and mortar store to buy the kose speedy since it was relatively cheap and I'd seen good things about it. MRP (once shipping rates go down)

  3. Kose Speedy: lighter consistency than the dhc, removed makeup well, did not irritate my eyes, very affordable, removing my water proof makeup was at 70% level. My reviews are going to get shorter because im tired lol. WRP

  4. Fancl Cleasing Oil: Got this on a trip to japan, as it ranked 1st? or near 1st on the cosme rankings. I think it was marketed as a product that was good to people with sensitive skin, but im not too sure. The smell is a bit odd, but aside from this, the cleansing oil worked miraculously. It was thin, got off all my makeup very well. I haven't really looked at the ingredients for this one yet, but if its really what they say (ie its targeted towards people with sensitive skin), then this is another bonus. WNRP, loved it, just too expensive for what it is.

  5. Hanskin AHA Cleansing Oil: This was after i discovered global oliveyoung, and it was pretty much the only website delivering to australia during the covid period (still continuing) without crazy high shipping prices. side note, i was annoyed since aus has been out of lockdown/have been quite covidfree for the longest time ever, but why have none of the shipping issues stopped :(. Anyways, this comes at a whopping 300mL for quite an affordable price, I did get it on sale. LIkw $25 usd for two bottles? I bought this as it was recommended by my korean friend, and told me that its quite popular in korea. The consistency is similar to the kose speedy, if not even a tad lighter. There was a citrus scent, although it didnt really bother me. It removed makeup relatively well. The only issue was that, it had irritated my eyes just sometimes? After using the whole 300mL bottle, it irritated my eyes probably 3-5 times? Aside from that, everything is perfect. How it works is quite similar to the kose speedy, I've got no issues with it. MRP, cheap, comes in a good 300mL

  6. Clinique take the day off balm: I use this when I go to the gym, as I can get a mini pot of it for $25 ish. Quite decent, works better than the banila co one, didnt irritate my eyes. Only issue is its price, aside from that, its quite good. MRP, solely because of its small size so I can bring to gym

  7. Hadalabo Cleansing Oil: Currently using this, and I'm nearly finished. A really thin consistency, probably one of the thinnest I've tried. Honestly, I dont really care if its thin or not lol, particularly as I'm fine with the dhc. I haven't worn waterproof mascara in a while, so I can't attest to how well this cleansing oil works on that, but for my full face makeup, it works out fine. Main downside is that its just 200mL, its not too expensive, but there are defs cheaper alternatives out there that do the same thing for me. I also go through a 200mL quite quickly, so I won't be repurchasing. WNRP

  8. Heimish cleansing balm: a new addition to my trials. It has such a soft texture? Anyways, I've got no issues with this one, it doesn't sting my eyes, removes my full face of makeup well, also has a separation between the product /lid/spatula which is great. MRP, if i can find mini to use at the gym

Overall:

Most effective at removing makeup inclu stubborn mascara: DHC

Taking into account cost and effectiveness, one that I would buy again: Kose Speedy.

Currently, looking to try out:

  1. Manyo pure cleansing oil

  2. ATRUE cleansing oil

  3. Missha Dry Off Cleansing Oil
