In the 2023 recruiting class, most of the elite quarterbacks and running backs have already found a home. One of the only positions still sorting itself out is the defensive line, with multiple blue chips on the board. Alabama landed one of them on Monday morning.

Jordan Renaud, a four-star from Tyler (Texas) Legacy, picked the Crimson Tide. Renaud is a 6-foot-3, 245-pound, explosive lineman that currently ranks 69th in the 247Sports Composite. He’ll help solidify Nick Saban’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class as well as round out a position of need for Alabama.

Renaud was live on the 247Sports YouTube channel and announced his decision with a straw hat with an Alabama band above the brim.

Renaud, who ran track in Florida before transferring for his senior season, was between Oklahoma and the Tide. In four games this fall, he’s tallied 30 tackles and four sacks. Last year, Renaud had two sacks, an interception, a field goal and a punt block for Palmetto (Fla.) High.

Jamarion Miller, who made his first impression last Saturday in the Tide’s win over Louisiana-Monroe, is a Tyler-alum and was able to help Alabama strengthen the connections with Renaud. Renaud predicts to be a down-lineman with power and speed moves inside, similar to that of Hewitt-Trussville’s Hunter Osborne.

It’s a major recruiting win for coaches Holmon Wiggins and Freddie Roach, too. Renaud took his official visit to Tuscaloosa on June 24, but the Sooners got Renaud on campus for a late visit on Sept. 10. The Tide were able to sell the opportunity of competing for playing time and developing at a program that’s produced multiple NFL defensive lineman.

Suddenly, a position of need for Alabama entering the fall on the recruiting trail looks rather strong. The Tide now have four DL prospects: Four-stars Yhonzae Pierre (Eufaula), Eldric Hill (Mo.), Osborne and now Renaud.

There are multiple other five- and four-stars that Nick Saban and co. are still in the mix for with two local products from G.W. Carver-Montgomery, James Smith and Qua Russaw, along with former Notre Dame-commit Keon Keeley. Landing any of them, and retaining its 22 current commits, should set up a historic group to bolster Alabama in 2023 and beyond.

Alabama kept its top spot on the 247Sports team list with Renaud’s addition and expanded its lead over the field, namely Texas and Georgia.

Even in the NIL-changed world of today’s college football, Nick Saban is still the game’s best recruiter. Not too many weeks ago, Alabama Football was lagging behind in recruiting, As in way behind. Now the Crimson Tide has arguably the nation’s best class.

Alabama has the No. 1 class as tracked by the On3 Consensus, the No. 1 class as rated by the 247Sports Composite and the No. 2 ranked class as per Rivals.

The odds are now so high Nick Saban and Alabama Football will finish with the No. 1 class, as rated by all three sources – it is time to consider if the 2023 class could be the best ever.

The answer is yes, it could be. It is too early to claim it will be, but a credible effort at a mock final class shows how the Tide finishes No. 1 in December or February.
