Dior’s latest campaign film presents the maison’s Cruise’23 collection. Titled La Capitana, the campaign’s name is inspired by the late Carmen Amaya, a famed Spanish singer and dancer, famed for being a prolific pioneer in the flamenco community. Directed by Fabien Baron, the film stars flamenco dancer Belén López and is soundtracked by Alberto Iglesias.

For the Dior Cruise’23 collection, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri looked to the Spanish — particularly their femininity, tradition and togetherness. Held in Seville, Spain, the show represented the multiple visions of womanhood as well as the spirit of flamenco from its vibrant colour palette to a special performance by the collective.

It is tinged with an Iberian identity new Cruise 2023 collection di Dior, revealed in the evocative scenery of Plaza of Spain in the city of Seville.

Between warm colors and contrasts with the night sky dancers dressed in tulle and flamenco dancers gave life to an exciting show, their steps perfectly calibrated according to the movement of the strings, the piano and a moving first violin.

Emblea of this collection is Carmen Amaya, flamenco dancer and singer of gypsy origins, who had forged a real revolution of gender and mentality from dance, since she performed wearing traditional flamenco male clothes: this figure represents a real leitmotiv for all the garments presented in square, especially for the colors (red, black and gold), for white shirts, For lace mantillas, as well as, of course, for the boleros and for the delicious ones taffeta.

Plaza de España in Seville thus reconfirms itself as an obligatory and sentimentally important step for the Maison, which had already presented the haute couture Bal à Seville dress from the spring-summer collection right in this location, built for theIbero-American Exposition of 1929, which embraces the richness of cultures and represents all of Spain.

Fashion

For cruise 2023, Maria Grazia Chiuri weaves a tale of glamour and grit by playing off gorgeous, glittering dresses and delicately embroidered bags against tough leather belts and boots.

Just like an Andalusian fever dream, Dior’s Cruise 2023 collection was first unveiled in the heart of Seville, Spain surrounded by dozens of dancers and gypsy flamenco stars. Inspired by the traditions and characters of this region, taffeta ruffles, bold colours and strong silhouettes run aplenty in creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collection. The reasons behind her inspirations are clear, as the strong, sexy idea of a flamenco dancer perfectly reflect Chiuri’s feminist design identity at Dior.

Subtle layers of lace and leather, black and white “arabesque” prints and reiterations of the Christian Dior Saddle Bag all come together to form distinctly elegant looks with Spanish flair, with the Diorodeo hat offering a perfect finishing touch. But Chiuri’s collection succeeds in honouring the culture without being cliché. Working with local craftspeople to create and curate the parade of garments, Chiuri shows deep respect and admiration for the sophistication of Sevillian skill and craftsmanship.

The collection also draws inspiration from the region’s Catholic churches and astonishing cultural riches. As a former cultural melting pot, Chiuri’s aims of bridging cultures together through fashion come alive through this collection, which echoes Christian Dior’s very own global reach.
